Cement is one of the most important materials and it surrounds us. It is used for streets, bridges and buildings. I wanted to try something different for this shoot as I love changes and challenges, and as sneaker shoes perfectly suit the cement world, I decided to build cement shapes with my team. We designed different forms with a variety of unusual shapes. For each shoe there was a different figure to make each photograph unique and special.
It was a lot of fun to create different models with cement; pouring and shaping different figures made me step into a new and unknown world. Of course we had a few trials with dirt and dust – the biggest enemy of photographic equipment. But then, yet again, my faithful equipment didn't turn it's back on me!
Included in this post are my final images, including some "behind the scenes" material. Notice the image of the shoe breaking though the cement wall? Do you see what I mean by being in a different world? During shoots I am completely focused, solely concentrating on the subject and hardly noticing surrounding conditions.
Thinking of future projects I can definitely imagine working with cement again to create new worlds that reach out to the viewer on an emotional level!
