The portable Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI), developed by broncolor - powered by TRUVIS, is the result of a successful combination of scientific and digital innovation as well as technical know-how from 60 years of experience with photographic lighting systems.
The broncolor products, known for their quality, are developed according to high technical standards and the latest specifications.
With the Swiss start-up company TRUVIS, which originated from the Digital Humanities Lab of the University of Basel, broncolor has an experienced partner for professional RTI visualization software at its side.
The object is illuminated from many different angles using the optimally arranged LEDs in the dome-shaped housing of the broncolor Scope D50. In order to authentically reproduce the shape, colour and texture of a surface, the surface visualization system creates a two-dimensional overall recording from 48 individual images.
This digital recording can be viewed in any web environment and mobile device thanks to the simple workflow and the optimally coordinated hardware and software.
The information that is stored digitally during the recording allows a spatially and temporally unrestricted analysis, as well as subsequent adjustment of the surface illumination. These advantages, in conjunction with its mobile usability, make the broncolor Scope D50 a trend-setting product in the field of surface visualization.
From large art museums to scientific research and remote archaeological sites: Cultural heritage imaging is currently the state of the art method for digitally capturing and recording human treasures for posterity.
The compact, portable yet robust design of the broncolor Scope D50 makes it a powerful companion in this field. Particularly the preservation of historically valuable objects is often a race against time. Many of the materials are highly sensitive and have a short lifespan. GLAM institutions concerned with the preservation of cultural heritage therefore know just how important it is to archive objects digitally in good time.
With the new broncolor Scope D50 it is now possible to capture and record a variety of objects and materials for cultural heritage purposes.
An important feature for the work of museums, research institutes and cultural institutions is the reproducibility of the images.
Thanks to the integrated solution of the broncolor Scope D50, the digital image can be created, exchanged, displayed and compared anywhere in the world. This makes it possible to make qualitative and quantitative comparisons between objects with similar properties and to draw empirical conclusions.
The Scope D50 supports the quick and detailed documentation of pieces of evidence when examining a crime scene.
Thanks to the transport case and the optional battery kit, the system can be used in the lab or on the field. Fingerprints, footwear impressions, or any other pieces of evidence left at a crime scene can be captured within minutes. The battery lasts for an entire day of capturing with the Scope D50.
The applications of the Scope D50 are limitless. You may analyse striations on fired bullets, cartridge imprints, footprints characteristics, sole of shoes, tool indentations, tool details, contamination, mouldings of tools, or print, fingerprints on reflective knives, and many more.
As a department of Archaeology and Conservation, we research and record heritage objects from the moment of excavation through typological identification, condition assessment, conservation treatment and beyond. In addition to revealing previously hidden surface details, the broncolor Scope D50 offers us the control and reproducibility in lighting our images that we need to document changes in objects over time. We are harnessing the abilities of the Scope D50 as a teaching aid and a powerful research tool and we have only scratched the surface of its applications to our work.
Using the external battery (sold separately), you can capture the digital images directly in situ, providing a new level of flexibility to open up cultural heritage that is difficult to access.
Thanks to the integrated RTI viewer software and hardware, digital recordings can be created and then edited in just a few steps.
The broncolor Scope D50 is able to provide fast, efficient workflow and ease of use thanks to its user-friendly end-to-end solution.
The software TRUVIS Authentica makes it possible to perform the subsequent illumination of the device as required on any modern PC or notebook.
Change the lighting settings in the software, highlight some information, and document easily pieces of evidence thanks to the export images function. An infinite number of light sources can be virtually added. Four different light types can be used: Directional, Point, Spot, and Ambient. Thanks to the reduced file size, the data can comfortably be shared for peer-review.
The automated capturing process allows efficient evidence collection. After placing the Scope D50 over the object to analyse, it only takes about 1 minute to capture the required 48 images. The system can even be operated by a semi-skilled person.
The Scope D50 UV/IR can capture images directly with ultraviolet (UV) , infrared (IR) , and visible light with the same setup. Multispectral analyses offer many possibilities when working with material or chemical compounds reactive with UV/IR wavelengths.
Remove the colour and emphasize on the surface details that would not be visible to the human eye. The Surface Enhance option allows you to analyse the model without environmental distractions. Adjusting the light settings for individual details enhances the chance of finding the deciding feature. Furthermore, pictures taken with defined and calibrated light settings help to prove the integrity of a piece of evidence.
makes even the smallest surface details interactively visible.
