Rooftop runway

by Juan Pablo Castillo

Photographer Juan Pablo Castillo executed an exciting fashion shoot on a rooftop in a raw industrial setting.

Juan Pablo Castillo: "Eduardo Vilago, one of the most renowned South American designers for celebrities and beauty queens, approached me with an exciting vision: to create a photoshoot that captured the essence of his diverse design artistry. These extraordinary pieces would be brought to life by the striking Fiorella Solines-Zea, the glamorous host of the fashion show Girls O’Clock.” _To complement Eduardo’s bold creations, we chose a rooftop in an industrial zone as our stage. The open sky and expansive layout provided the perfect setting, while the raw, urban elements created a dramatic contrast to the vibrant colours, intricate textures, and Fiorella’s captivating elegance. Executing this ambitious vision required precision lighting. We needed equipment that was lightweight, battery-powered for mobility, and powerful enough to outshine the midday sun. Speed and colour accuracy were non-negotiable, and only broncolor could meet the challenge. The Siros 800 L checked every box, delivering the performance and reliability needed to bring Eduardo’s vision to life in spectacular fashion.

I used two Siros 800 L strobes for their exceptional power and High-Speed Sync capabilities, allowing me to shoot at 1/2500s and ISO 64 with precision. The main light, fitted with a Beauty Dish and mesh diffuser, delivered beautifully soft yet controlled illumination. Meanwhile, a second light with a P70 reflector and fine honeycomb grid, positioned 4 meters behind the subject, created a striking rim light. For this shot, I relied on two Siros 800 L strobes, syncing at 1/2500s and ISO 64 for crisp detail. A Beauty Dish created soft, dramatic light on the model’s face, while a second light with a P70 reflector and honeycomb grid added a rim light.

For this shot, a lot of output was essential, as the monolight had to be positioned 8 meters away, casting its beam through a window from the outside. With a P70 standard reflector and a medium honeycomb grid, the setup delivered flawless precision and control.

Yellow dress

A Siros 800 L with a white Beauty Dish was positioned front-left to sculpt the subject with soft yet striking light, while another Siros 800 L with a 30x120 softbox was placed behind to the left, creating a beautiful rim light that separated the subject from the background while adding extra depth and dimension. And for the portrait I used exactly the same setup but with 50mm.

Violet dress

A 4x6 diffusion panel was positioned directly above her to soften the light and reduce contrast. Meanwhile, a Siros 800 L with a white Beauty Dish was placed front-right, angled to the left, gently feathering the light for a beautifully sculpted effect."
