In this how-to video Urs Recher and Karl Taylor explain an easy method to photograph and light engraved glass.
The challenge with this shot was to keep the background evenly grey while ensuring that the engraving on the glass was clearly visible.
The softbox above the glass provided the general light for the set. Thus, everything was very even. But the engraving was almost invisible. Therefore, Urs and Karl introduced a Picolight and a projection attachment to the set. With the hard light of the Picolite, the engraving on the glass was much more visible. In addition, the combination of the Softbox and the Picolite projection attachment also eliminated unpleasant shadows on the table too.
