Fashion photography for online stores

by StillMoving

We have been working with the international fashion brand, Raging Bull, for the past nine years. Each year we produce two seasonal photography and film campaigns for their spring/summer and autumn/winter collections. We supply over 5'000 eCommerce images each season which include, floating mannequins, studio model shots, lay flat product photography and we also go onto location to shoot their lifestyle and campaign content. All of this is shot with our collection of broncolor lighting with a range of light shapers.

Studio photography

Four days of the shoot are spent here at our studios in Cheltenham. During these four days we cover:

  • Floating mannequins
  • Model
  • Detail shots of each product
  • Flat lays

Ensuring consistency, not just over the four days, but also with previous seasons, is key as often these images sit beside each other on websites and social media platforms. To allow us the confidence and accuracy to execute this we use a mix of the broncolor Siros 400 S and 800 S in the studio. These mains-powered monolights are reliable, and powerful.

Location photography

Going on location with Raging Bull is a lot of fun and we are fortunate to have visited some incredible locations over previous collections. This isn’t to say it’s not without its challenges and between the fast-changing environments and a tight schedule, it’s imperative that we have equipment that allows us to deliver consistent, high-quality content, regardless of where we are.

For this shoot we spent two days in the Cotswolds, with numerous locations including a house on the lake, a busy high street, and various other scenic spots to give the capture the essence of a true English summer holiday. Many of the shots are taken on the move, in multiple locations, sometimes in difficult to reach areas and so we don’t always have the luxury to take our time with larger setups. Sometimes we might be shooting with a single large light source, but in other cases we need to light a room and multiple models. Using the broncolor Siros 800 L monolights allows us maximum flexibility, with incredible battery life.

We take a range of light shapers but always work with the Siros 800 L and 400 L for all our fashion campaigns. Often, we try to work with a large soft key light such as a broncolor Octabox 150, Softbox 120 x 180 or sometimes a Beauty Dish depending on what we are trying to achieve.

We love using the broncolor Siros L because they are easy to use, reliable and consistent in power. Being battery-powered also means we can set them up anywhere, which is often needed in more remote locations. Being able to change the power of individual lamps from the trigger on the camera is extremely useful and makes significant time savings during the setup process.
