Spotlight

by Cheuklun Lo

Product photography requires a combination of the photographer’s artistic sensibility and rational expression. To present the object as its theme, it’s important to make it clear and specific with artistic techniques to make it out of ordinary.

The goal of this shooting of fashion products was to make the products present a sense of avant-garde future in a dark and mysterious space. The shooting setting was very simple, with only a white desktop and a black background. And I created the spotlight by using the Picolite to create the atmosphere and highlight the product. After finding the best angle with a strong visual impact on the products, the last part was to find the point that allows the light to be focused and reflected.

Honeycomb grids and barn doors helped me put together the light and create an environment with strong contrast. It should be noted that the foreground light needs to be strong enough because the background is very dark. And if the foreground light is insufficient, the structure and gradation of the product will not be able to show well.

Lastly, the red and blue light dotted were used to enrich the presentation of the whole picture with a sense of science and technology.
