Urs Recher

After an early and brief detour into mathematics, Urs Recher devoted himself entirely to photography. After completing his photographic training in a fashion photography studio, he went on to specialize in advertising and beauty photography and, over the past decade, has additionally become known for his work in dance photography.

For 28 years, Urs worked as a photographer for broncolor while also serving as a consultant on photographic and lighting-related matters. During this time, he conducted hundreds of seminars and workshops around the world, focusing on professional lighting techniques and creative light shaping. Through this extensive international teaching activity, he established himself as one of the leading specialists in studio lighting.

The latest of the three books Urs wrote — Light Architecture 3 — distills decades of practical experience, research, and teaching in photographic lighting, is still available, and continues to be used at several schools and universities.

In 2025, Urs was appointed lecturer for general lighting, portrait and nude photography at the Zentrum Bildung in Baden, Switzerland. 

In 2026, he became broncolor Global Ambassador.
