Yannick De Bakongo

In my heart, I am a dreamer. I always have been and always will be. It is the magic of all the old books and legends I read as a child that convinced me to become a dreamer. For me, a dreamer has always been someone who makes things happen. A creator who imagines worlds and breathes life into them. I am a photographer and cinematographer with Swiss and Congolese roots, currently living and working in picturesque Switzerland. My artistic journey began over a decade ago when I first worked as a retoucher. This experience shaped my eye for detail and awakened in me the desire to create my own visual impressions, which eventually led me to photography and film. I specialized in portrait and fashion photography and my style is inspired by the great masters of painting and the chiaroscuro technique. This technique, which masterfully utilises the play of light and shadow, enables me to capture profound impressions and fascinating stories in my pictures. The balance between light and dark is the key to harmony in a picture. It is a constant, challenging game to decide which elements should be revealed and which should remain hidden.
