Cristina Otero

I was born in Galicia, northern Spain in 1995, and currently live in Madrid.

My life has always revolved around art. My home walls are full of paintings from my parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. I discovered photography by chance at the age of thirteen. After finding out what I was able to do with photography, I took my dad’s compact camera and my mom’s red lipstick and began doing self-portraiture. In 2011 I had my first solo exhibition, and became the youngest-ever Spanish artist with an individual gallery exhibition.

My photography is a home for strange creatures and monsters with a past, present and future. They tell about other worlds, drawing in the viewer to try and decipher their stories.

Nowadays, I still use myself as the main model of my work. I have also started doing fashion photography, which I hope to continue doing in the future!
