At broncolor, the active support of young photographers is a high priority. In addition to developing and manufacturing first-class lighting solutions for established photographers worldwide, we ensure that fresh ideas and innovative approaches flow into our company and the photography and lighting industry by supporting young talent.
The broncolor Education Program is an initiative to support young talents and offers freely available learning material as well as courses explicitly for flash photography and allows the purchase of financially subsidized equipment.
Our collaboration with schools, universities and other educational institutions is a central component of our support for young talent. Through these partnerships, we can ensure that young talents have access to the latest technology and expert guidance at an early stage. We regularly welcome visitors from regional educational institutions to our HQ in Switzerland. Many broncolor partners and brand ambassadors also support the promotion of young talent outside our local market.
«Liquid Photography» with David Lund in UK
One of the best known and most ambitious ambassadors is the global brand ambassador David Lund. David has a passion for liquid photography and demonstrates this impressively at various events, always involving his audience. At the Arts University Bournemouth in England, he demonstrated spectacularly with liquid colors, flying eggs and a catapult why short flash durations are important in flash photography.

Lighting seminars in the broncolor studio
In a lighting seminar at the broncolor studio, students from the School of Design Bern and Biel were able to find out how different light shapers affect the lighting of different objects and people. The creation of shadows, reflections and edge lighting were discussed and their use as a design tool. In addition to the classic use of light in portrait and product photography, the freezing of movement was impressively demonstrated using shattering glass.

Christian M. Westermann is photography coordinator at the School of Design Zurich and is a regular guest at broncolor together with his apprentices. The aim of the visits as part of the “EFZ photographer” training program is to gain an insight into the history of flash technology, the development of flash power packs, lamps and reflectors, as well as a workshop on the subject of light. The apprentices appreciate the exchange with the specialists in the various departments and the fact that they can experience and understand flash lighting technology in the workshop.
Afterwards, the students visit studios - either externally or in the photo studio of the School of Design Zurich- to apply and implement what they have learned. In the following two examples, the students experimented with short burn-off times and realized a food photography campaign.
Since the 1970s, the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts today's School of Design Zurich has been using broncolor as lighting equipment. According to Christian M. Westermann, this has been done successfully and with the knowledge that these devices can be relied upon. The robustness, reliability and long availability of consumables and spare parts are the main reasons why broncolor equipment can be found in the studios of many educational institutions.
Feedback from a seminar participant
“I learned an incredible amount from this day. I had a lot of 'aha' moments and the seminar was able to take away my uncertainties when it came to lighting. For example, when photographing reflections from glasses. It was explained very well how reflections from glasses arise and how you can prevent them with the position of the softbox. The knowledge gained from the seminar made me realize how much fun it can be to create a perfect picture.” Testimonial by Alessia Beretta, Apprentice at the School of Design Bern and Biel 2024.
Future
In the future, broncolor will continue to inspire the next generation of photographers and provide them with the tools and knowledge to expand their creative boundaries. The broncolor Education Program will continue to offer new innovative courses and workshops and we aim to collaborate with other international educational institutions. In addition, we will continue to develop technologies that not only meet the needs of today's imaging industry, but also enable the creativity and design innovation of tomorrow.
We look forward to continuing to work with emerging talent, helping to shape the future of photography and enriching the industry with new ideas and fresh perspectives!
