Golden Monkey – Project: “Endangered Animals”

We are sharing on a month base some more of the key stories from ‘Endangered’ that were featured in the broncolor calendar 2018. With this imagery I hope to tell the story of animals that find themselves at the edge of extinction.

For his ‘Endangered’ photo volume, Tm Flach has created shots of mammals, reptiles, fish and birds that are as unique as they are touching.

Unlike usual wildlife photography, Flach has chosen an unusual style for this; he ‘lifts’ the animals out of their natural environment and puts them into focus as the main motifs. “The romantic, free, wild shots of animals are not necessarily what drive or encourage people to take action”, says Flach.

I photographed the Golden Monkey behind glass, which only added to the challenge. We used the Satellite Evolution, with a Move 1200 L head on, which allowed me to beam the light helping to create the black background. I managed to get one shot of the Golden Monkey before she got wise to my attempts of capture her portrait.

After the first go, she’d run in, grab the food and run off again, turning her back to the camera and making it impossible to replicate the original shot, whilst managing to grab all of the food.

Light Equipment: Satellite Evolution, Move 1200 L Kit, Ringflash C
