Untypically, I started the lighting setup not with the main light, but with an effect light. The Picolite (1) coming from the left was equipped with a projection attachment and allowed only the side of the lying lip gloss facing away from the camera to be illuminated very precisely and brightly. This light was rather insignificant for the products themselves, but created the red and white reflections on the white table and emphasized some edges.
I used another Picolite (2) as the main light, this one fitted with a narrow honeycomb grid and aperture mask. Distance and angle were chosen so that the round spot of the honeycomb grid and the reflection of the projection attachment could be perceived as one light.
In order not to reduce the contrast of the deep shadows and not to desaturate the red reflections, it was necessary to brighten in such a way that the light reached all products but not the table surface. For this purpose, the corresponding light source, a Picobox (3), was positioned exactly at table height, with a slight inclination towards the objects.
Only the ring had previously unlit areas in the upper right corner. These were subtly brightened with a Fresnel spot attachment.
Photographs were taken with a full-frame mirrorless camera and a focal length of 28 mm. At a sensitivity of ISO 100, the exposure was made with aperture 14 and a shutter speed of 1/125 s.
