Fusion with light

by Cheuklun Lo

I've always wanted to learn from the artist Man Ray, to use more optics in photography to achieve special effects rather than relying on post-production effects - after all, there were no computers in his time either. So I focused on experiencing light more. Light is everywhere in our lives, and we live with it every day.

Want to apply good light, we must first go to understand the light, the deeper the understanding, the more accurate the use. For example, you can always observe where the light around you is coming from, to understand what effect different light will show, can be a good exercise for the use of light, but also to maintain the sensitivity to light.

The project was to make the costumes look light and fluttering, and we intended to create a more dreamy atmosphere. The main props were flowers, clothes, and ice. When the scene was built, I wanted to combine these elements, but I didn't want to let the modeling process flow into a common combination, and I wanted the fusion to look like one in itself, so I used a special lighting method to realize that these elements could be presented in the same picture at the same time. The Pulso G with P70 and Honeycomb was my final choice, and they did what I needed perfectly. They met the main light needed for the clothes. And at the same time, they were up to the task of reflecting the special texture of the ice. We used multiple exposures and Pulso G to help me create illuminating light through the props to build the mood of the shoot.

Of course, different materials must take different ways of lighting, we want to combine clothing and flowers to model, it is necessary to have some dark shadows on the clothes, I use long bright light to fill in the light for the flowers, while letting Octabox as the background light, it will be able to make a more even white background, so that the flowers can be more naturally integrated. And the ice itself has a good permeability, we need to play the light, it is necessary to retain the ice permeability, but also pay attention to retain some of the shadows, so that in the shot out of the picture, so that the combination of flowers and subjects presented more perfectly.
