How to Shoot with UV Lights in Photography

The image has a dramatic illumination, with a lot of contrast. The model’s sports top is only lightened by the light of the UV attachment, which makes the texture of the fabric shine even more. The UV attachment is blocking the visible light, and only the UV light (around 300-315nm) is passing the attachment.

Some material (in this case the fluorescent fabric of the top) gets visible, while other (in this case the human skin) does not. The contrast between skin and top is therefore huge and the yellow colour of the top is almost glowing. A Softbox 120 x 180cm is used from the back a with the edge mask, so only the contour of the skin gets light, while all the rest, including the background, is black.

The picture is shot with a medium format camera and a focal length of 120 mm. The exposure time was 1/180 s and the aperture f/11.
