Shaping emotion with light

In music-driven visual storytelling, light is more than illumination – it shapes emotion, atmosphere, and narrative depth. This philosophy came to life in Swargaloka, a studio-based music clip and photo production created in collaboration with one of Indonesia’s most renowned musicians, and visually directed by Martha Suherman.

Produced entirely in an indoor studio environment, Swargaloka required absolute control over lighting to support both motion and still imagery within a unified visual language. The project demanded consistency, flexibility, and creative freedom – qualities that have become synonymous with Martha’s long-standing choice of lighting system: broncolor Satos.

Shooting a music clip in a studio setting presents a distinct set of challenges. Space limitations require powerful lighting solutions that remain precise and manageable, while fast-paced production workflows demand seamless transitions between video and photography. At the same time, the lighting must support storytelling – maintaining mood, texture, and tonal consistency across every frame.

In Swargaloka, the visual direction called for an atmospheric and cinematic approach, balancing dramatic contrasts with subtle gradients of light. Every detail mattered – from skin tones and textures to depth and separation – making lighting a central element of the creative process.

For Swargaloka, Satos was once again selected for its ability to deliver power, precision, and reliability in a demanding indoor production environment. Its high output provided the freedom to sculpt light with confidence, while maintaining exceptional control and color consistency across both video and still photography within a single workflow. The flexibility of Satos allowed the creative team to shape mood and atmosphere seamlessly – ranging from soft, cinematic lighting to more dramatic contrasts – without technical compromise. This level of performance enables photographers like Martha Suherman to stay focused on visual storytelling, trusting the lighting system to perform consistently and intuitively throughout the production process.

In Swargaloka, lighting was not treated as a technical necessity, but as an integral narrative tool. Each lighting decision supported the emotional rhythm of the music, enhancing the visual storytelling rather than overpowering it. The ability to fine-tune light quality and intensity allowed the team to maintain a cohesive aesthetic across video sequences and still imagery alike.

Satos played a critical role in achieving this continuity, ensuring that every frame – whether moving or static – retained clarity, depth, and character.

Swargaloka marks yet another project in which Martha Suherman has relied on Satos for indoor studio production. This ongoing collaboration reflects a trust built through repeated experience – where performance, reliability, and creative flexibility consistently meet the demands of professional, high-level productions.
