Modern systems such as broncolor Satos and broncolor Stelos offer an unprecedented level of light control and go far beyond traditional flash systems. Satos enables extremely precise, multi-channel power distribution with high consistency, allowing photographers to manage complex studio setups with surgical accuracy and reproducible results. Stelos brings this precision into a compact monolight, combining fine power adjustments, variable color temperature, and high-speed sync in a mobile device. Together, they represent a shift toward software-controlled lighting design, where even the smallest changes can be implemented instantly, enabling maximum creative control.
A key aspect of modern broncolor systems is the high consistency of light output across the entire power range. The goal is to ensure that color temperature and light characteristics change only minimally, even at different power levels, flash durations, or during HSS operation. This stability results from precise electronic control of energy discharge and an optimized system architecture. As a result, the light remains reproducible and reliable, regardless of the selected settings. For the user, this provides a consistent foundation for precise and controllable lighting in professional applications.
With the new generations of power packs and monolights, broncolor breaks new ground in the flash cut-off curve: broncolor's new and unique cut-off electronics convert the suboptimal curve into a perfect rectangular shape – regardless of the selected flash duration or intensity.
The height (intensity) multiplied by the width (flash duration) gives as an area the total amount of light emitted. Both parameters can be adjusted to achieve either the highest intensity or the longest flash duration. Thanks to the all-time rectangular flash curve, the end of the flash no longer shows any loss of power. Thus, the light intensity and color temperature are constant at all times.
In current broncolor products, HSS (High Speed Sync) plays an important role when working with very short shutter speeds, especially in outdoor environments. HSS makes it possible to work with camera shutter speeds below the traditional X-sync limit by emitting the flash not just once, but in a controlled manner over the entire exposure time. This allows bright ambient light to be balanced more effectively and enables the use of wide apertures for shallow depth of field.
In modern systems such as Stelos or Satos, HSS is optimized both in software and hardware to ensure even illumination despite reduced peak output.
Satos is breaking new ground in power supply technology. A sophisticated interplay of specially developed plug-in batteries and power units allows the configuration of the optimal energy setup for any application – whether in the studio or on location. The dual power management system delivers the required flash energy precisely at the right moment, forming the foundation for the system’s flexibility. One device for both studio and on-location use.
