Recently, I journeyed to Sant'Agata Bolognese, the hometown of Lamborghini, for a unique photo shoot. Awaiting my arrival was a design project from the Centro Stile Lamborghini, which aims to show their vision of the future of a super sports car. This is where their talented designers are able to bring their ideas and creations to life.

The Lamborghini Terzo Millennio design concept is a work of art with beautiful lines that incorporated some advance aerodynamics engineering. I knew this was something I wanted to show off in our final images. One of the best methods that came to mind in capturing the aerodynamic design was to shoot the Terzo Millennio in a wind tunnel.

Since this was still a design prototype and not a functional working vehicle, we simply couldn't drive the Terzo Millennio to a functional wind tunnel facility. Over the course of two days, my team and I spent our time in a workshop creating our own wind tunnel using loads of aluminum pipes, steel, and much more to construct the look we wanted. A stellar propeller perfected the final touches to this pseudo wind tunnel. The propeller credit is due to none of than the amazing pilot you got to know in my last blog article about the Mercedes-Benz calendar shoot. While the propeller was an actual item on set, it was enhanced with some added elements in post.

It was finally time for the photo shoot, which I knew I wanted to achieve a dark, mysterious mood for the overall tone yet I still needed the perfect lighting for this project. I used the Broncolor Siros L monolight paired with a Para 177, P 45 reflector, and a 30cm x 180cm Softbox to shape the light as needed around the Terzo Millennio. While you can see some light stands in the background, there were added just to complete the look I wanted in the scene.

For the dark and mysterious vibe I was after, I focused the light to come from behind the Terzo Millennio which caused the front end fall into darkness. A very ominous look was achieved this way, it looks like it just ready for business and to shared some tires on the street. I focused the first day of shooting to the wind tunnel portion while I spent the second day shooting the rest of the set that was needed for the project.
