As a photographer, sometimes you have to create your own scene when things aren’t exactly how you first envisioned them. This is especially true when it comes to available or natural light, there's not much control around how the weather will affect your shoot. Sometimes, you have to create your own lighting.

This time around, I wasn’t traveling to a different country or even a different city to shoot but I stayed in Munich with a warehouse set to be the main background of this shoot. The star of the shoot was a Novitec Ferrari 812 Superfast. I remembered I wasn’t sure what to think about the Ferrari 812 when it was initially released, but when I saw this version I fell in love. The Novitec package adds some performance upgrades but the aero package makes it look a bit more aggressive which works for me. I wanted to capture the entire 812 Superfast in this warehouse environment.

The warehouse worked, but the issue for the shoot was it was a super cloudy day, which wasn't ideal for my vision. I wanted some contrast, I wanted shadows, and I wanted some warmth in the photos. Cloudy days are not really conclusive of this. This is where I had to create my own lighting to complete my vision. I used broncolor Verso A4 2400 WS power packs with broncolor monolights to create the hard light I wanted.

By adding the hard light to the scene, I was able to use the newly created shadows from the pillars in the warehouse to create the perfect framing in the photos. The new lighting also allowed me to change the scene into a sunny urban day. While the warehouse wasn’t exactly set in the urban scene I wanted, I ended up replacing the background with some backplates of LA. While soft light could of work, I knew hard light would work out so much better in this scene, and with the use of my broncolor lighting, I was able to create the exact tone and vision I wanted.
