I have always been a big fan of speed splash photography, so this time I decided to give it a go.
I wanted to create that classic splash shot, that looked and felt luxurious. Instead of using light tones I decided to play off the green tone of the bottle for the background. I added in a gradient to give it more depth and drama. Before doing the set up, I prepped the product by hanging it from a thin metal rod and getting it into position. I put the background & camera in place and moved on to the light setup. First I positioned a 100 x 50 cm diffusion panel on the left side of the bottle and placed a Siros 800 S with a 30 x 120 cm Softbox behind it. This created a continuous reflection on the side of the bottle. I then added a diffusion panel to the soft box, this smoothened out the edges of the reflection and added light on the front of the bottle. To reduce the darkness on the side and bottom of the bottle, I positioned a sheet of white plexi-glass and a mirror along the right side. This helped to bounce light back onto the product and get rid of any dark shadows. To add texture and shine, I used two additional Siros 800S with a narrow honeycomb. The first Siros 800 S, I positioned on the right side in line with the product and pointing straight down on it. The second Siros 800 S I placed on the left side of my camera pointing directly on the product. Now the tricky part! To photograph high speed with the Siros 800 S two things are important. First, you have to turn on the SPEED mode of each light and secondly use a transmitter with a HS function. In this case I used the Broncolor RFS 2.2 Transmitter, which works hand in hand with all Broncolor products. With it you can make adjustments, such as, changing the power and turning the modelling light on / off and so on.
