How to photograph a portrait with soft light

This picture was inspired by Swarovski Advertisements. Everything is light and soft. Almost no shadows but a lot of highlights. And of course the necklace has to look beautiful.

To make a nice, burned out background, and also to get a rim light on the model, I used a beauty dish from behind the backdrop. Or to be more specific, the light goes trough the background which is also visible on the necklace itself. Everything looks already great, now there is just one light needed from the front. A good tool to use for this is the balloon. With the distance to the model you are able to adjust the contrast between the direct and the indirect light. So you can adjust where, and how much shadows you want to have.
