For this image, two HMI 400s and one HMI 200 are used. It is possible to work with an open aperture with the HMI 400 and 200. The shaping of the light with the barn doors is essential; some dark parts in the image are achieved by closing the barn doors. The short distance to the model requires a fast working because of the heat and the brightness of the light.

The main light, an HMI 200 with an open face reflector and barn doors, was placed very close to the camera on the left side and about 1m-2m away from the model, shining directly into his eyes. The open aperture gives a softness to the image, despite the hard light.
A second open face reflector with barn doors is used as a hair-light on the right side. The same hair-light illuminates a reflector on the front which creates some fill-in. There is a PAR reflector with a PAR lens WFL and barn doors on the white background.

Depending on how the barn doors are turned, and how open or closed they are, you can achieve very special lighting effects, from narrow lines to very wide ones.
