How to Freeze Motion in Sports Photography

For the trampoline shooting, I once again worked with the Pulso Spot 4 with its 150 mm projection attachment. At the moment my most used light shaper. It gives me freedom to set with the spot all kinds of shapes of light on my subject.

On this shooting I projected a rectangle on my paper background. To start I illuminated my background evenly coloured using two Pulso G heads with P70 normal reflectors. The brightness decrease towards the corners of the picture (vignette) was added in post-production. To achieve a beautiful blue colour mood on the white paper background I adjusted in front of each reflector a full C.T.B. (blue) foil.

To illuminate the trampoline jumper I used a Para 222 with the lamp head in a fully focused position. Applied in this way, the light of the para works as a gigantic spot: it is very precise and can be aimed exactly at the model without influencing the background. The light output is also very high, which allows to work with reduced power and extremely short flash durations. As an additional edge light, I used an additional Octabox 75 (with light grid). To get a warm tone I mounted a full C.T.O. (orange) foil into the Octabox.

In order to freeze the trampoline jumper completely sharp, I used two Scoro S 3200 J; the flash duration was set to "minimum," in this example this means 1/8000 s.
